Messy Lab is a cultural association born in 2018 with the aim of supporting and enhancing the culture of ceramics through courses, seminars, and cultural trips. Messy Lab carries out its activities mainly in the Italian regions of Liguria and Piedmont in collaboration with organizations that pursue a philosophy of life attentive to promoting practices related to environmental sustainability.
The Messy Lab adventure began in 2016, before the homonymous association was founded. In fact, the story begins in the Ligurian hinterland, a few kilometers from Ventimiglia, where the Torri Superiore Ecovillage is located. Here, in the oldest part of the medieval village, there is a small pottery studio that has been refurbished, renovated, and equipped to start intensive pottery workshops combined with holidays in the ecovillage.
Between 2018 and 2019, given the interest received in the first years of activity, the association also opened a space in Turin, where pottery wheel and hand modeling courses are organized throughout the year. Since 2019, the association has grown, enriched by a new collaboration with Cascina Malerbe (San Raffaele Cimena - TO), a farm surrounded by greenery a few kilometers from Turin. Here, we offer raku and hand modeling workshops.
More recently, the association has been engaged in the promotion of two new initiatives: in Liguria and Piedmont, the TELL_US artist-in-residence program, supported by the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation; in Sardinia, the Fratelli Melis Ceramic Art Prize and the exhibition which saw the participation of 54 national and international artists.
Messy Lab is run by six women, passionate ceramists, who keep these different realities alive.
